Tips for recovering from a traumatic brain injury

On Behalf of | Jun 30, 2022 | Injuries |

If you hit your head extremely hard in a car accident or another type of accident, you could sustain a traumatic brain injury. Depending on the severity of your brain injury, you could face problems that last temporarily or even permanently.

TBIs are common and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2020, brain injuries caused over 64,000 deaths in the U.S. If you incurred a TBI in an accident, the following tips can help you recover and get back to your normal life.

Get plenty of rest

After the accident, you may be anxious to get back to work and the normal routines of your daily life. However, you should focus on getting enough sleep at night and resting as much as you can during the day.

Talk to your doctor about your activity level

Generally speaking, you should avoid participating in any physically demanding activities after the car accident, like working out or playing sports. Consult with your doctor about your recommended activity level and wait to drive a vehicle or ride a bike until your physician says it is okay.

Get back to your normal routine gradually

Refrain from doing too much all at once. As you start to make progress with your recovery, gradually go back to work, school and the activities you normally do.

The effects of a brain injury may linger if you do not take your recovery seriously. Be patient with yourself as you work on recovering and returning to normal life following the accident.
