Is there an accurate way for me to know my own BAC level?

On Behalf of | Nov 2, 2019 | DWI |

Facing a drunk driving charge in North Carolina is probably one of the last things you want to do. However, it happens. You may feel perfectly fine to drive, but your BAC may be well over the legal limit. You may wonder if there is any way that you can accurately determine your blood alcohol content without having to use a device. The news is not good. It is incredibly difficult to determine anyone’s blood alcohol content with good accuracy without using a testing device or taking a blood sample.

Lifeloc Technologies explains that the reason your BAC is difficult to determine is that there are many factors that affect how alcohol impacts your body. How much you drink is not a good indicator because the amount of alcohol in a drink may vary due to the type of alcoholic beverage it is and if it includes a mixer. The type of mixer and amount also has an impact.

Furthermore, alcohol affects everyone differently. Your body will metabolize it in a different way than someone else’s depending on your body weight, your tolerance level, your gender and how much food is in your stomach. There are even factors you may never even think of that can affect your BAC. For example, the altitude level of where you are drinking can cause your level to be higher than you assume it is. Medications you may take can alter alcohol’s effects and your BAC as well.

In any case, with all these factors coming into play, you really cannot make a true determination of what your BAC is without doing some type of testing. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
